Former UnitedHealthcare Vision CEO moves from Senior Advisor to lead revenue and growth strategy across Symphony Risk’s specialty businesses
DALLAS — Oct. 22, 2026 — Symphony Risk Solutions, a national specialized risk management advisory, insurance brokerage, and human capital consulting firm, has named John Ryan the company’s first Chief Revenue Officer. The appointment reflects growing demand from middle market businesses for brokers who specialize in their industries instead of generalists organized by geography. Ryan, who has served as a Senior Advisor to Symphony Risk since 2025, will lead revenue and growth strategy across the company’s specialty businesses to meet that demand.
Thirty Years Building Growth at Scale
Ryan brings more than 30 years of healthcare and benefits leadership to the role with a proven track record of helping companies grow sustainably through a client focused approach. As CEO of UnitedHealthcare Vision, he led one of the nation’s largest managed vision care plans and sat on UnitedHealthcare’s Specialty Benefits executive team. He more than doubled revenue to $1.2 billion and grew membership from 18 million to 26 million lives across commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and private label markets.
Before that, he spent 15 years as Senior Vice President and General Manager of UnitedHealthcare’s National Accounts Division, leading its client management teams with the highest B2C Net Promoter Scores in the industry. Earlier, he was a principal at Mercer and Willis Towers Watson.
Ryan holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Syracuse University and completed executive education at Columbia Business School. He previously served on the boards of the National Association of Vision Care Plans, Holt International, and Empower Health.
“Our ‘Clients First. Always.’ focus keeps leading us to the same conclusion: they want specialists who know their business, not generalists who route them to a practice group,” said Michael Marcon, CEO, Symphony Risk Solutions. “We have been meeting that demand one specialty at a time, and John is the person to take it further. He has been in our growth conversations for the past year, he has run a billion-dollar business, and he chooses to spend his time building something with us.”
As CRO, Ryan will lead Symphony Risk’s revenue and growth strategy, working alongside the firm’s specialty businesses leaders. Since leaving corporate leadership, he has helped companies build achievable growth strategies by recruiting the right sales leaders, establishing strong distribution partnerships, and creating a culture of sales success. Ryan will continue to hold select advisory and board roles, including with XP Health, MiroDx, Eyesafe, and Visibly.
“I spent most of my career inside very large organizations, and I know what scale can and cannot do for a client,” said Ryan. “Symphony Risk’s leaders are among the best I have worked with in my career. The firm is built around specialists rather than geography, and that changes how fast you can move for a client. Helping more clients identify and manage their risks is meaningful work. My job now is to bring Symphony Risk’s capabilities to more of the market.”
